1999 Suburban dashboard noise

I have an annoying rattling noise that seems to originate from the passenger side airbag area. Can't tell exactly where it's coming from, but I know it's not the glovebox since removing it makes no difference. To me it sounds like it's deep inside the dash.

It starts at around 45mph and doesn't increase in volume. It used to do it intermittently, now it happens all the time. We've had the vehicle since new and this just started recently.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: 1999 Suburban dashboard noise

Hi,
this may take some digging.
Please do be aware of the danger of working around air bags.
You have to do a bunch of things to deactivate them so they can't blow up. Disconnecting the battery is NOT enough.
Take care, Eggert.

I had the same noise. I took it to my dealer and after working on it for a couple of hours they found a loose screw, I believe it was on the air bag bracket. He said he was fortunate to be able to get to it and tightened it. Noise went away. It was very annoying.
