Oil Pan Removal On Straight 6

I Am Trying To Replace The Oil Pump On My 93 E150 4.9L. I Checked The Haynes Manual And It Said To Remove The Pump You Have To Take Off The Oil Pan By Removing The Front Motor Mount Nuts And Washers And Jack The Motor Up. Well I Finally Broke Loose The Two Nuts (one On Each Side) That Appear To Hold The Engine To The Frame Brackets. I Placed My Jack Under The Oil Pan And The Vehicle Came Up Off The Jack Stands. What Am I Missing. Do You Have To Remove The Transmission Bolts Also This Started Out As A Not So Difficult Project But Its Taking Longer Than I Thought. Also The Radiator Is Already Disconnected, Help!!!

I take it you completely removed, not just loosened the motor mount bolts, right?

Also, you are using a big block of wood under your oil pan, I hope. Otherwise you are going to dent your oil pan which is not good.

Assuming that to be the case, it could be your engine is not raising up straight and the motor mount bolt studs are getting stuck in the motor mounts. I would try to lower the jack and get tht engine to settle back into the motor mounts again. Be sure your block of wood between the jack and oil pan is straight, and watch very carefully as you slowly raise the engine that the studs are pulling up out of the motor mounts. Make sure they clear the slots as you raise the engine. Also be sure to periodically check topside to be sure you are not raising the connected engine too high so that hoses, etc pull out or get damaged.

Once you get the engine up, place some wood blocks between the engine and the top of the motor mounts, so engine can rest on them as you lower and remove the jack from under the oil pan.

Hopefully this will produce enough clearance for you to free the oil pan and replace your oil pump.

Be super, super careful with all of this. You dont want to have the car or engine come crashing down and you lose a hand or worse.
