Spare Valve Cover

Anybody know where I can get a spare valve cover for my 99 EX SOHC? I want to do a DIY job to my valve cover but I don't want to be with out my car while I am in the process.

You can check thepartstrader.com or the junk yards. That is the only place I can think of. If not do it over the weekend and just get a buddy with a car to help you in case you need a ride or want to go out.

it only takes like 3 hrs from start to finish

Yeah, dude it doesnt take long to do the valve cover -- dont buy a "spare" one its a waste of money. Take off the 4 bolts, pry up (might need to use like a butter knife... if it hasnt been off in awhile it can get tricky) clean it up, light sanding, spray... spray again... spray again... let it dry for an hour, put it back on and presto you are done.

Get high temp engine paint available at any automotive store...

thnx guys....i was under the impression it takes @ least 1-2 days to dry properly. I was thinking about matching the valve cover with the color of my car. I think red would make my car look too much like a christmas ornament.

I am thinking of doing this also. Will you need to get a new valve cover gasket?

No. I've taken my valve cover off multiple times and reused the stock gasket and no oil leaks at all. The only cars you need to replace those gaskets on are old 350's n such.

Not true, I removed mine when I painted it -- put it back on and I had two leaks, one at each end... so I just used the gasket sealer stuff on BOTH sides (I was under the impression you were only supposed to use it from the gasket to the valve cover -- not BOTH sides) but that fixed my problem :finger:

there's this thing, they call it a rachet. Use it. It tightens things.
