Exclamation steering column/ignition switch help

I've searched the forum for a while and cant find any help so maybe someone can be of assistance to me. I was replacing the ignition switch in my 97 Blazer, and was unable to find the small female torx size. Long story short I ended up pulling the old ignition switch off and broke the white male end which is in the steering column that goes into the ignition switch. Has anyone ever disassembled the entire steering cloumn and can this plastic piece be replaced? Also does anyone knows the location of the clips to take the steering wheel off?

You do not need to take the steering wheel off to change the ignition switch. you may have to go to a tool automotive store not auto zone pepboys ect they do not cary those size bits and sockets I was told because of theives buy them who know in any case get the proper tools there is a thread here that tells you step by step how to do this . maybe I can find it for you or perhaps one of the more expirenced guys on the forum can help you out. Again dont mess with the steering wheel you looking for trouble. Justfound it under search colum punch in trandmission codes when those threads pop up scroll down and you will find a thread that says ignition switch replacement talks you through it step bu step.

Re: steering column/ignition switch help

Yes, I know I do not have to take off the steering wheel to replace the ignition switch. But I snapped off the plastic piece that goes from the ignition and turns the ignition switch. So the only way to get to the piece to replace the new one would be too take off the steering wheel.

Re: steering column/ignition switch help

Well i got the blazer back together. If anyone needs to know how to take the steering wheel off, it is not that hard. Just take the black plastic piece off the back of the wheel and you will see behind the wheel 4 circular shaped metal cones. These are what tyou have to press to get the steering wheel to release. Press them in, or push the little metal rod underneath them upwards and they will pop out. You also need a lock plate remover to get to a clip to get the wheel off. Well hope this helps someone so they dont struggle like I did.
