Exclamation 350 at 325HP want more...what can I do?

I just got this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=7984270975

Chevy 350 engine 4 bolt, 325HP TBI, with a 600cfm carb (4 barrel)

I was wondering what I can do to increase the HP without the use of NOS (I already have), turbos, or superchargers.

I was told to get high duration cams. Also, huge lift cam and fully ported heads. What Can I do to get around 400HP or above?

I was also told I would need a clear exhaust to the back with a hi flo muffler and no cat.

Summit racing was refered to me to get these parts...anyone know any good products I could use? If so include the links to summit....thanks

Ben

looks like a nice engine man...well i would first do the full exaust headers and back then open element, get yourself some heads...the guy on ebay said it already had a performance cam...but hey if you want more get more. And you can always stroke it out to a 383
You can get a bigger carb, or is it a TBI, they look like carbs but they have injectors.sry i dont know more but thats a start. oh and when you get it in your car you can do rear-end gears and suspension upgrades that would help you go faster.

Re: 350 at 325HP want more...what can I do?

not a whole lot of info on the auction page. what cam is it? no point in gettin another one if it's sufficient.
i assume those are low-flow factory heads... they don't say much about them.

get better heads, vortec (GM) , Edelbrock, AFR, or World Products. maybe intake (I'm not sure of the one you already have), I probably would stick with it for now. electric water pump (if you have the $$$). 650-700cfm carb (if you can switch). headers are a must (1 1/2" or 1 5/8" primaries, prefer 1 5/8"). if it's not a roller cam, get one. roller rockers too.

keep in mind, some of these upgrades can involve getting other stuff (i.e. guideplates, screw-in studs, roller lifters, high volume fuel pump, etc).

I plan on having a phase II for my engine. I'm going to do those things that I regret not doing right now. 2nd generation vortec heads instead of 1st gen (big performance, good price), roller cam and roller rockers, electric water pump (standard pump creates drag on engine). this setup will easily be over 400hp.

I'm with Kevin on this one, there isn't very much actual specs about this engine at all.

You should know exactly what heads you are getting, and if they don't specify, they are probably crap.

"Custom fitted cam" could mean it's for a small block chevy, who the hell knows? You should really know the exact specs.

Also, don't get wrangled up in the "high duration" and "big lift cam" terms. They really don't mean anything, every cam has duration and lift, it's just figuring out how much of each you need for your engine. People are prone to over cam thier engines by looking at the bottom of the page and getting the cam with the biggest numbers, DON't DO THAT. Call a cam company and get a recommendation, they figure everything from transmission and rear end to what power your looking for and give you an exact cam measurment for your entire vehicle, not just your engine.

And be gentle with the N2O, that page said this engine comes with hypereutectic pistons, which should only be used with a 150 horse shot or less. Anything bigger and you should go to forged.

Here is the link to the company that built the engine.

www.fivestarengines.com

The site says exactly what the auction page says. My advice is to contact them and start asking very specific questions about this engine. If you buy this and the only thing you can use is the block, rods, crank and intake...you just seriously overpaid!!!!

or ask them if they could build you a 400 hp engine if you pay a reasonable more amount of money.

Re: 350 at 325HP want more...what can I do?

um, is it TBI or carb'd??? its not both. looks carbed to me.

anyway, i agree with these guys, you dont know enough about the engine you are working with for us to start throwing out possible upgrades, we dont know what youre working with so we dont know how to upgrade it.

also with cams, high lift usually makes power, but too much will smack your valves into your pistons causing serious damage, and too much durration will create valve overlap which will bleed off a load of low end power in favor of extreme high end power. so unless its a race motor, id stick with a performance street/strip cam. comp cams has a 1-800 number to help choose the perfect cam for your application.
