Just purchased a 2000 Toyota Sienna with 82,000 miles. Noticed that the ABS light comes on if you leave the parking brake on after starting the car and driving a quarter mile or so. However, if you leave the parking brake off before starting the vehicle and drive for awhile, the ABS light never seems to come on?!?
I took it to a Toyota dealer, and they can't seem to find anything wrong? However, they did suggest it may be the ABS brake actuator and the cost to replace would be $1,800.00, but they don't know for sure! Well, it is not in my good nature to go around dropping $1,800 on a hunch. So, looks like I'll just deal with it. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Many Thanks!!!!! |

Re: ABS Light comes on
Bring it to a local shop for 2nd opinion. I found sometimes the local shop is more honest than dealership.

abs actuator
I just had the abs actuator replaced on my 96 Avalon. My mechanic quoted me a price of $1250 for the part alone. I asked him to use a remanufacted part. Total bill for parts and labor came to $1088 (this included fixing a broken linkage in the rear door too).
My car was losing brake fluid. I had to add fluid every week. My mechanic found fluid leaking from the abs actuator. Check your actuator for leaks. Hope this helps. |
