ABS Recall

I've just started to experience the ABS activating below 6 mph on my truck ('01 LS 1500 4wd) and was going to get to the front wheel sensors to clean things up. On a whim I called Chevy (800-222-1020) to see if they had initiated a recall for this. (I believe Canadian trucks have been recalled for this). The customer service rep said that GM was still gathering info on what model trucks this was affecting and that a recall notice should be going out sometime in November to the proper owners. She took all my info based on my VIN number and added it to the database (or so she said). Anyone that is having this problem, and I know from this forum alone that there are a bunch, should call Chevy and complain. Have your VIN number ready. Even if you can't wait and have a repair done, keep your receipts. I was told that you can submit a claim for reimbursment if a recall goes out.

recall

I had a recall on my tailgate cables and you were only reimbursed if a chevy dealer did the work. Just my 2 cents.

if you get a recall for a problem you already had fixed and have the receipt for parts and labor chevy will reiburse you a certain amount for the parts and labor if repaired somewhere other than a gm dealer.

if you bought the cables and have the reciept but replaced them yourself you can submit for a reimbusment for the cost of the cables.

Re: ABS Recall

I needed a new sensor and Chevy wouldn't sell the sensor without the hub, the turkeys. They wanted $400 for it but I found a dealer in Texas that sold me the hub for $150 and it fixed the problem.

Re: ABS Recall

Hey korndog...I have a spare sensor for $50 if you need one and I bought another hub with sensor because I thought the other side would need replacement. I'd sell it for what I paid for it...$150. $5 delivery on the sensor and $15.00 on the hub (it's heavy).

I read a news release from GM that said that the recall was only going to be in 14 northern states. I can't remember which ones, but I'm pretty sure it's all of New England then the states that border Canada.

Re: ABS Recall

the dealer i work for has been cleaning the sensors under warranty for about 3 weeks now [NY], we know the recall is coming, just not sure when, we see alot of these things. from what i have heard/read it's gonna be a 'rust belt' type campaign. if you're worried about plowing into something in the meantime, pull the ABS maxi-fuse out of the UBEC [underhood fuse box].

ABS Me too!

Thanks for all the detail on this forum regarding these damned brakes... I luv my chevy but! This 02 is starting to get the best of me/ First it was the near disappearance of the rear brakes and rotors at 20K miles... replaced them an the checked the front pads and rotors to find the outside pad and rotor surface lookd great, "unused" but, the inside pad had worn to the metal plate and trashed the rotor... closer inspection revealed the outside pad had seized... Brakes all the way around...

Another chevy forum that I was monitoring said that other silverado owners were cleaning and checking brake at every tire rot. Gimme a "brake"!

Now I'm Just shy of 40K

Couple weeks ago coming into a slow stop I was faced with thte phantom ABS and found myself pushing the trailer hitch of the truck in front of me into my Lic plate. The guy was very understanding and no damage done... And then it did it again... This time I was ready and no
collision. I spoke to a guy at a local garage and he mentioned the same thing noted in this forum that it's been happening to a lot of Chevy trucks... Suggested pulling the 60A fuse 'til I could get the sensors looked at or replaced or I'd get surprised and really rear end somebody... I just climbed out from under that beast abd there's no apparent window or friction disc to clean. Looks like some sort of magnetic sensor... Guess I'll get on board w/ the NTSB, become a recall statistic with the rest of the Silver owners and try to get in for an ABS repair... Til then the 60A fuse sits in my console...

Thanks again for the info

p.s. I know it's probably under another posting but I had the infamous clunking steering column to... It got greased once and then "finally" replaced with the ec'd version...

Re: ABS Recall

we got the official recall paperwork today, none of the lubricant it calls for, but we got the info today. if i think of it, i'll write down the recall number, and what states it applies to, then post it here tomorrow after work.
