Can anyone tell me the average price of getting your transmission serviced?

At the dealer it will run you about $140, assuming your car needs Mercon V. If it takes plain Mercon, probably around $120.

If you take it to some oil change place, DO NOT get a "power flush," and be aware that they will only drain the oil in the pan, not what's in the torque converter.

If you're not doing it yourself, this is one maintenance I would recommend having done by a dealer.

I have taken my 98 Taurus to Certified Transmissions to have the tranny serviced and never had a problem with the tranny. No seals leaking or pan leakage and the car has 95k on it. Plus the transmission place was cheaper than the dealer. JMHO.

Whatever you do, have the pan dropped, thoroughly clean the magnetic washer and pan. Replace the filter. Enough Mercon V and a filter alone will cost close to $50.

Re: price of transmission service 97 taurus

When I had my Taurus tranny serviced, they dropped the pan, cleaned the magnet, and I believe they drained the converter because they said a little old fluid remained when they refilled the tranny. I've not had any problems with it. I had some tranny braking symptons ealier in the week, but nothing since.

Re: price of transmission service 97 taurus

sorry, it seemed to me it was under $100 for the tranny service, around $89 keeps coming to mind, but it can't hurt to give them a call too. Good luck.
