98 windstar eecs codes
hi all
i have a code P0442 evaporative emmission control system leak detected (small leak) for some time now and with all the info i was able gather, decided to replace the purge solenoid. before i could get to do the repair, and after a 2 hr road trip, i reconnected the code reader and found that a new code replaced the P0442 - P1451 evaporative emmission control system vent control circuit. the description seems a little vague, any idea's on how to deal with this new code? thanks in advance for any help. |

Re: 98 windstar eecs codes
P0442 is MOST often due to filling the fuel tank with the enigne running. As for your new code, apparently the vent solenoid is not opening or is disconnected electrically.

thanks for the reply modmech. when you mention the 'vent solenoid' do you mean the vapour canister purge solenoid or the vapour canister purge valve? sorry for the tech b.s. but thats what ford calls them.

Re: 98 windstar eecs codes
I have another "simple" thing to try.....as I would hate to see you replace parts to end up finding out that is what Modtech mentioned...or this.....
Make sure that you have your gas cap on correctly....and most locking caps do not seal correctly as many people who live in emission testing areas have found out. I would eliminate these before checking further. Another thing to check would be to make sure that the vaccum lines are good.....I seem to remember that the purge solonoid (this is what takes the electrical signal from the PCM...and converts it to a vaccum signal) is located on the firewall.....driver's side of the car. The solonoid that is located near there.....on the back of the upper intake manifold....is the EGR vaccum solonoid. The vaccum source for both.....is the PCV line. I would imagine that the lines TO the solonoid are not leaking....as one would expect that you would have additional code(s)....like EGR. However....after the solonoid between the solonoid and the charcoal canister (under car.....inside frame member near fuel filter) is possible.....or a kinked line...... |
