Passenger door switches backlight or no?

Can anyone tell me if the power door and window switches on the passenger door are supposed to have background lighting like the drivers door switches? Mine aren't lit when I turn on the instrument lights, and the haines manual isn't really clear on the circuit (says 1999 models etc).

I have a 2000 Silverado Extended cab.

My '01 does. Find a replacement for just the small panel that includes the switch. Lights go out, kinda like the lights behing the presets 1 thru 6 on my radio and nothing else.

I guess I'll have to tear it apart and see if I'm getting power to the bulbs just to make sure. I read somewhere that radio shack has suitable replacement bulbs? I can solder if I have to.

Yeah, if the bulbs are burned you're gonna have to find someone to replace 'em. Having just enough soldering knowledge to be dangerous (we're talking very little here) I can tell you this isn't going to be easy or cheap.

Either way, it'd likely be both easier and cheaper than replacing the stereo. Might try your local tech college. See if they'd be willing to give it a shot. Offer it as a learning experience. It might work.

On the panel switch: I had to replace the driver's panel switch due to a short. My dealer charged me $90 (tax extra) for the full assembly (included both the driver's and passenger's side door controls). The power window controls are on a separate control.

Re: Passenger door switches backlight or no?

GM has been hammering its suppliers for cost savings so much, that they have to rsort to using the cheapest bulbs that they can get their hands on from China, the same bulb manufacturers that make the lights on little toy cars, isnīt that wonderful.

There's a passenger door switch panel with both switches on ebay for $22 with $8 shipping in the right color. I may have to check into that. I have been certified for high reliability soldering in the past, but by the time I get the supplies and run around and find bulbs etc., buying the whole assembly might be the best way to go. As I posted earlier, I'll check the circuit to the bulbs first, just to eliminate any wiring problem.
