Unhappy 740iL Air Conditioner

With the A/C on and accelerating, I get a a loud rapping noise that sounds like the fan is hitting something. The noise continues for a few seconds after decelerating and then slowly decreases and stops until the next acceleration. I can duplicate this noise in park by reving the engine. The noise appears to be coming from the front of the engine compartment on the passenger side. Any thoughts on cause.

Does the air conditioner function normally outside of the fact that a noise is made?
