Factory Radio

Last night I was trying to remove the factory radio from my 99 Taurus. I bought the radio-removing tool from AutoZone. The right side fits all the way through and i can feel it grabbing the clips, but on the left side it will go all the way through but it does not feel as it is grabbing any thing. The right side of the radio will come lose but not the left side. Is there another way to removing it. I don't want to damage any parts.

I wonder if the clips might be damaged. You probably know that you have to push outward (toward the sides of the car) when you push the DIN tools into the 4 holes. I would first try inserting the left DIN tool at various depths and pushing outward and see if you can get lucky that way. Short of that, you might be able to reach up under the dash and try to feel around for what's going on. If you have a digital camera you can try to get a shot and see what's going on back there.

On the left side (The damaged one) the DIN basically goes all the way through to the end, without grabbing any thing, I push to the left and try to pull, it will just simply slip out of the holes. I will try the reach under the dash and see if I can get some pictures.
