Open Diff. to Posi rear end
Ok, heres my question, I don't have posi in the rear end of my pickup (89 S-10, 4.3L), and it's 4x4 so a complete gear swap is basically out of the question. I mainly want posi for the winter time when it is slick as scum on a louisiana swamp, and when I go off roading. I believe that the carrier is the thing that matters. So my question is where can I get a new/remanufactured one, and how much would it cost?
Thanks -Ryan |

Re: Open Diff. to Posi rear end
my Buddy replaced the carrier in his V-8 S-10 conv. W/ an Auburn unit with the clutches.(about $400 or so) it was awesome. He put one tire on cement and one off the road in the dirt and both spun..nice. but this unit did not act up turning the corners like a full locker does. Check summit/jegs.

Re: Open Diff. to Posi rear end
from what I can tell just about any first gen loaded Blazer 4x4 seems to have posi.
Mine left the factory with one and the spare parts one that I basically bought had 1 in it. My bodyshop owner friend took just the posi unit out just before we made the deal. He left the gears in there with his old open dif carrier My mechanic friend easily installed it in my bodymans first gen S-10 pickup 1 night I don't understand how to change everything but my mechanic friend said that once I have the cover off it would all make sense You should see some of the places that my Blazer goes without shifting into 4wd. And I don't think that I ever really had to. Plus it steers nicely both on and off road. Chevy did a nice job designing these units |

Re: Open Diff. to Posi rear end
Most blazers did not come with posi (limited slip) Bravada's did out the door, but on blazers it's a fairly rare option to have a g80 rear..

Re: Open Diff. to Posi rear end
I guess that I got lucky twice in a row.
I kinda wish that Randy didn't need the posi, he'd been bugging me for months to buy the rig before he found out about it having the unit. The truth is that I would have given it to him anyways, he just fixxed my car and did a nice job, and he's doing the final bodywork on my Blazer next week |
