99 Concorde Missing and Codes

**Duplicate Post by me...sorry to upset anyone if it does...but i need help please! **

My wife's 1999 Chry.Concorde (2.7L) has just under 80,000mi on it. She's getting a sputtering/stalling every now and again and over the last few days, it's gotten worse. I do NOT have a Code Scanner, but I did the "Key Trick" (like the old Chrysler Cars) and the codes on the Odometer read P1684 and P1391.

It's "missing" every now and again...and stalling on her completely. I was going to change the Cam sensor (since its easy enough to get to) but after reading some of the other posts, i'm not sure where or how to proceed.

5/8/2005 update: It's getting WORSE by the day. I'm almost scared to let her drive it since some days she's got 60+ miles to go and it may be this week.

Let me know either here or please email me.

Thanks...

Re: 99 Concorde Missing and Codes

P1391 - "Intermittant loss of CMP or CKP" This sounds like a communication problem between the PCM and one or more of the other modules in the vehicle, you should see the Dealer for further troubleshooting.

P1684 - "Battery disconnected within the last 50 starts." If you tried to clear the previous code or clear a Check Engine light condition you will get this code.

I haven't disconnected anything...but if that would help, i'll do it.

The car is definitely having a fit...missing...stalling...being all-around annoying.

Lemme know... and thanks

Re: 99 Concorde Missing and Codes

If you have access to a DVOM, you can check the cam and crank sensors to see if all is well. On the 2.7, the cam sensor is mounted on the front of the cylinder head on the driver's side bank of the engine, just above the belt tensioner. Disconnect the electrical connector for the cam sensor and connect the positive lead of your voltmeter to the orange wire terminal and your negative lead to the black/light blue wire terminal and turn the key on, voltage should read 8.0V. If not, you have either a wiring problem or an internal fault with the PCM.

If the afforementioned test is OK, reconnect the sensor and test it live by connecting a paper clip into the tan/yellow wire (know as backprobing) and place your positive lead on the tan/yellow wire and the negative lead on a good engine ground. The voltage should fluctuate between 0V and 5.0V. If no fluctuation is seen, the sensor is bad.

To check the crankshaft sensor, is similar to the cam sensor, only thing, the crank sensor is mounted on the bellhousing of the transmission on the passenger side. Check for the 8.0V by doing the same thing as the cam sensor, disconnect and check the orange wire terminal and black/light blue wire terminal. If that's ok, backprobe the gray/black wire and turn the engine over, voltage should engine fluctuate between 0V and 5.0V. If it doesn't do that, you have a bad sensor.

Just FYI, when checking the crank sensor, it's best to disconnect the cam sensor so that the engine doesn't actually start up, your hand will be very close to the catalytic converter and wouldn't want you to burn your hand. Another alternative would be to turn the motor over by hand by getting a socket and a breaker bar and manually turning it over, you should get better results doing that, if the other way is slightly more difficult.

Replace the cam sensor.I have ran into that code twice.A new cam sensor was installed and both ran fine after that with no further problems.Only place to get the cam sensor is the dealer.

Okay...we replaced the Cam sensor and the Crank sensor.

It's at least running decent...but the Check Engine light started flashing after about 100 miles. I checked the code (key on-off etc) and it gave me a P0300 (zero-three-zero-zero) and the ChkEng lite is still on.

....NEXT???

And...Thank YOU!

P0300 - Multiple/Random Cylinder misfire detected.
Has the Spark Plugs been changed recently or never? Might be time.

Remove one of the spark plugs, inspect and replace the plugs if needed. Also one of the coils mught be bad.It has what is called coil on plug ignition system. If the plugs need changed, put Champions in it.Champion spark plugs are the best for Daimler Chrysler vehicles
