Red face removing the clearcoat

Just like almost any other time, I am lost 
I got a 94 Trooper (red) that was probably never waxed (Not by me) and on all somewhat horizontal surfaces clearcoat is completely or almost completely gone. Some areas have spots of pitting some areas it’s completely intact but ellowish in color and some of the areas a completely down to the paint. Is there any (preferably chemical) process that allows removal of the clearcoat without damaging the paint under it? I was planning on removing the clearcoat and then just waxing the paint…. Thanks for all your help

There is no process that I know of that will do that. Paint is paint and trying to remove one without touching the other is not going to be possible. The other problem yo have is the BC/CC system itself. The CC is what seals the paint and provides the shine. Waxing the BC is not going to provide a shine and it pretty much leaves your paint open to the elements. I know this isn't what you want to hear but it's time for a paint job...

Re: removing the clearcoat

you can't just wax paint...it will ruin it. you either have to live with it or re-paint the whole car.

Re: removing the clearcoat

if you want to take some layers off of the clear coat, though, you can wet-sand it. Take a really high grit sandpaper (fine) and spray the areas with water while sanding. This takes it off very slowly, with not many scratches. Do a search for some more detailed instructions.
