Unhappy bad ignition coil...i think

guys i went out to start my camaro and it wouldnt hit. just cranks, and the fuel pump is working (i can hear it) i took the air cleaner off my tbi unit and it wasnt spitting gas. (dont know if its sopposed to before starting completely) anyway i tested my coil, it has power getting to the coil from the wiring harness, i tested it with a meter. but i have nothing getting to the distributor, i used a fire light and got nothing. my 350 is still using the stock style seperate coil pack on the intake. all my fuses are good and the car ran great a few days ago, except for the rpm guage going haywire. we had a heavy rain and i had my car covered with a car cover and it was all damp under the hood. should i go ahead and replace the coil??

ummmmm do you have a spark plug wire going from the coil to the distributer cap? cause i do on my 2.8 and you could replace the wires if you think the current one is bad. otherwize go ahead and grab yourself a msd blaster coil....it made a huge difference on my 2.8

Sounds like you have bad ignition module. If it was just coil you would still have injector pluse.

Ok, i turn my key over and the ignition module on the firewall clicks, and then i get power to everything else, and yes there is a wire running from the coil to the distributor.

i checked my power wires going to the coil, they had power getting to the coil, but the coil isnt sending any to the distributor. so i figured that its the coil.

a few months ago i had to drive the car to work, this was after i had swapped engines, and i used a crappy set of plug wires, car ran great for 10 miles and had plenty of power, but then all of a sudden it started spudering and missing. so i make it to work and lift the hood and my coil wire is arking off the coil. a dude at work just so happened to have a short spark plug coil wire to go on it and it stopped the arking after i changed it. and the car ran better, but my rpm guage was out of wack 1500-3000 rpm over, the car has been parked and only driven maybe 15 miles in the past few months. but my dad said that i had fried the coil with that crappy coil wire. sorry for the story but maybe it will help.

Re: bad ignition coil...i think

ignition modules dont click. pull a plug wire and use it for a coil wire. it will miss but if it starts just clear the codes
