1998 S-10 Recall????

Received a letter yesterday from the factory stating if I had the following problems with my 1998 4 cyl. S-10, PU to notify the dealership for a fix or reinbursement if already repaired.

-Rattle noise in exhaust. (From pieces of the interior of the exhaust pipe coming apart & lodging in the catalatic converter. (My problem)

-or Loss of power.

-or trouble light coming on.

I contacted local dealer & was told this was a free fix if truck was under 120,000 miles.

tj

Letter to me states, "As an owner of a 1998 S-10, equipped with a 2.2L 4 cyl. engine."

Might be more years or models covered but does not say that in letter.

Also states this is "Not a Recall but a free fix or reimbursement if already fixed."

Letter is from the Recall Processing Center, Milwaukee, Wi.

There is a recall or fix number on the letter. 05021

If you call your local dealership & give him this number he can inform complete details.

I will be glad to send or fax letter

Sounds to me like timing/chain rattle or rocks in the exhaust. Only done it on me after it was warm & giving it the gas.

Re: Rattle noise in exhaust under load 98 S-10

LOL... I had that problem 2 years ago and got a high flow cat to replace it. Original Cat was all clogged up. Wonder if they'd give me some cash. Doh.

I've had a rattle in mind whenever mine hits 2nd gear. Lately, I've also noticed a rattle that seems to be coming from my exhaust. My engine has a 'dirty' sound to it; it sounds like it's burning dirty. I'm not really sure how to explain it...

the rattle sounds like something dislodged in the exhaust between the manifold and the cat. it's more like a light clanking sound, like shaking a stick inside a metal pipe. but now it's really effecting my engine performance. slow response, wierd idling, no pick-up, and while on the interstate today i couldn't maintain speed. it started to lurch like i had water in the gas line or i was out of gas. the engine just sound like it was struggling to breath.
