99 DENALI< peice of crap
Hey guys
I have HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS PEICE OF CRAP, I just want to sell it but I have more problems to fix before I can, I am having problems with the fan/heat in the front when I turn it on, it SOME TIMES WORKS only on the HIGH setting, also the fuel sensor is not reading properly, and now my god damn alternator is not working, I have had a new fuel pump, water pump, radiator, full tranny rebuild etc.. just constant problems i really wish I did not buy this car. How much do you think i could get for it?: www.cardomain.com/id/kelsodenali |

Re: 99 DENALI< peice of crap
sounds like a personal problem. you got a 6 year old truck first of all and did all sorts of custom work that did nothing to improve the trucks value. when you should be expecting things to go wrong with it you put money into toys instead of puttingthat money away for repairs.
i bought one new car in my life and will never buy anouther, and i worked for GM for 15 years, if you want to customize something pay cash for it then rework all the mechanical stuff to perfect , then make the outside new, then do your custom crap. as far as the value of the truck goes go to nada and check them then add any of the junk you did and depretiate it all by at least 20 % if its more than 6 months old 50% if its more than a year old, and if its older than 18 months forget it subtract what ever you put in it. unless you live in california then good luck there are a lot off yuppies that might want that crap. but in the real world most of that junk just devalues the vehicle. good luck http://www.nadaguides.com

Re: 99 DENALI< peice of crap
Hi DJImpact,
are you returning the truck to stock or selling it with the mods? I agree with 84 Fiero, the mods may work against you, as most people do not modify their cars. You may want to consider taking the amp and sub box out of the cargo area. NADA shows a trade-in of $14,075 with the expected 80k to 90k miles. Take care, Eggert

Thanks guys,
I got it WITH the mods though.. I didn't do anything my self... It only has like 50K miles on it so far.. I'm going to rebuild the alternator tomorrow, and just bring it to a shop for the god damn electrical problems. I have just let it sit for the past month and a half because it stresses me out just looking at it. I would like to sell it with ALL of the mods for like 20K if I can.. that would be lovely. |

Re: 99 DENALI< peice of crap
Hi DJ,
the fan only working on high point to the resistor pack that give the lower speeds. The fuel sending unit reading improperly may be due to deposits from the fuel. You will have to drop the tank for that. There are threads about this. I wish you well and hope that you can sell it for 15k. The wheels and the radio will not fetch much extra. The stereo with the exposed amp and sub box in the cargo area may make it harder to sell. I would take that out. At least hide the amp and put grilles on the speakers. This is the old body style that has been replaced by the new body style six years ago. That dampens the Denali trim level. Take care, Eggert

Re: 99 DENALI< peice of crap
Well I just want to say that I think it's a very nice looking rig. I just bought a 2000 Denali...and I love it.
The problems could be either the previous owner did not take good care of it, or it's simply a vehicle with problems (which there are many like that). Where are you located? If you're in a place like Southern California...you'll probably get more money for it with all the aftermarket stuff on it. If you're out in the middle of no where, take the wheels and everything off and either put them in another rig or sell everything sepereratly. |

Re: 99 DENALI< peice of crap
Yeah, those problems you state are just common problems that can happen with any older car. Plus, with the audio stuff you have in there, all you are doing is putting strain on everything else. Things like voltage spiking and such, that's just shorting the life of the altinator which you have. Alpine amps suck so much power versus what they can put out so it's no surprise that your altinator is gone. Don't just rebuild it, get a bigger one built to handle the abuse you put things through. Also, upgrade the battery.
I own a customizing shop and see people all the time wanting to install just the audio/video or anything else expecting the OEM electrical system to be able to handle it. Well, it just don't happen. You have a very nice vehicle. Just properly replace/repair what you need and you should be fine.

Re: 99 DENALI< peice of crap
yep, and one more thing is to make sure your stereo has a capacitor hooked up to it. That will take some of the strain off of the alternator, battery, and the rest of the electrical system.

Yeah you should have at least a 1 Farad capacitor in there. Me myself living in Southern California I see it everyday. I live in South Gate and on Firestone blvd you see it all. Dealer after dealer selling denalis, escalades, hummers all very nice with their rims and audio system. I could just see it your denali sitting on one of those dealers going for about 30 grand. Perhaps even up to 35 grand. Nice truck and Good Luck in selling it. Oh and what kind of car/truck do you plan on buying next ?

Man, I guess there must be a lotta clueless folks living down there if anyone thinks that there's a market for $30K '99 Denalis...and if anyone thinks I'm being harsh--well ask yourself this: would you pay $30K for a '99 Denali, even with all that bling in it--some of which you probably wouldn't care for anyways? I didn't think so...

Re: 99 DENALI< peice of crap
DJImpact, can you keep us up to date on how the fixing is going?
Are you all set with that? I still suggest the NADA trade-in of 14k as a selling price. Take care, Eggert
