Brabham F1 Glass Etching

This is Jack Brabhams F1 coming over the "Whee!" at Nuremburgring, in the rain, in '67....If I recall correct. Its done on two panes of glass. The mist in the background is done on the backside of the back glass. The thickness of the back glass is 1/4" this gives a seperation between the car and the mist. The front glass only has rain drops on it and some grass in the foreground. it is seperated by about 1/2" from the back glass. I did eliminate my reflection and drop the color via Photoshop. But the pic is otherwise as is. Sorry about the size but on zoom my camera dicks with the image and without it, close up, you see to much of me in the reflection.[/IMG]

That looks really good!
I love the motion and mist!
Do wish the image was sharper though.
My fave track in granturismo4
But crap its long!
Those cars were so pretty. They look like korean war era jets!
Much better looking than modern f1 cars.

Re: Brabham F1 Glass Etching

I've got to get a high rez digital camera. Kodak's left me high and dry when it comes to reproducing my artwork. I used to use Royal Gold 100. That's another thing they found out I used and discontinued (The Miller Car...). I know you can't stop "progress" but you shouldn't "throw the baby out with the bath water."

Wow I think I can't imagine how great it looks in real. I guess it's one of only a few artworks which can be presented outside. If I had one, I'd mount it on the mailbox.

Btw it's "Nürburgring"

It's great!
I like the depth given to the image by using two layers of glass.

That's something I can't capture in a vector design.

Yeah....Been awhile since I had to think about spelling that. Nurburgring. How'd you get those two little dots over the "u?"

Mailbox? Some jacka$$ would play mailbox baseball with it. Of course, you put it on a black stone and someone smacked that with a bat doing 60mph you'd know who it was......They'd leave both hands and the bat at the point of impact! OOOORAH!!!!!

I'm not familiar with the term "vector design." I've seen it here on this board. I'll check it out. I wish I could figure out a way of actually displaying the depth on a monitor. Unless you can see it you can only imagine it.

Re: Brabham F1 Glass Etching

Vector programs (Like Adobe Illustrator) are a digital way of drawing using algorithms to remember the shapes and not as bitmaps or paint program designs ( like Adobe Photoshop) that remember the color of each image bit or square that make up the whole image.
Hope that helps you understand it a little bit more.

Yeah, I wish I could see some of your work in person.

Re: Brabham F1 Glass Etching

Is this more precise than bit maps? What are the advantages of one over the other? 'Scuse me. I'm a computer idiot. I know about enough to be dangerous and that's about it. I actually drew my first thing the other day on computer after having one since 1998. It was a study for the Red Wolf Car that Never was. The only reason I did it on computer was I could redo easier. I can still draw three times faster by hand and much better than I can with computer. I did like the way I could manipulate the flame work on Adobe though.

I was impressed with myself 'til I got here.

Re: Brabham F1 Glass Etching

Nice work on the roundy-rounder car.

I've only been working with a vector program for about 8 months now, so I may not be the best one to answer, but here's a try.

To me, the big differences are line control and "painting" effects.

With a vector program, you have great line control and if you need to resize anything, it will not distort the image.
Painting in a vector program is like painting with a brush.
All color must be made with a stroke or bound by a stroke.
I also like the easy at which you can can adjust lines--no more erasiers for me.

The coloring or painting features seem to work better in a bitmap program like Photoshop.
It's more like painting with a spraybomb (or airbrush) and there are good masking features.
You're laying color over anything.

I recently brought a tutorial that works that way--draw the line art in vector than save it as a bitmap and paint it in Photoshop.
Just haven't developed a feel for using Photoshop, so all my work (lines and color fill), is done in the vector program.

Thanks. Its sometimes better to have a novice explain something to an idiot.

I've seen what you mean on the resizing thing.

There was some color shift when I brought the R&R over via the host site. It should be lighter overall.
