Tire Help

So my tires are starting to REALLY low on tred, ive patched two of them recently, and in the rain the are slipping like its nothing; turning and accelerating. I have P225/60R16 97S, they came with the car.

Basically what im looking for is performance and some visual looks in that order. Something like Radial T/A with the white sidewall writing, and hopefully atleast H-rated. my car is a 2001 3.8 if that makes any difference, I know nothing about tires other than what I recently looked up (what all those numbers mean and such).

Does anyone have any suggestions on what would be good tires...?

oh and price wise, im looking to spend maybe 350-500 and labor wouldnt be required

Re: Tire Help

Well my advice is to go with Toyo Proxes 4 but they might be more than you want to spend. Thats what I have on right now and they are sticky, even in the rain. I got mine (245/45/17) for $150 a piece but you might be able to get them cheaper. I would also suggest getting something a little wider while you are gettting new tires, 235 or 245 would probably be good

Re: Tire Help

Yes your wheel is a 16 but you could still get 235/60/16 or 245/60/16, I just put the 245/45/17 in as a refrence, thats what size mine are on the ZO6 wheels. Another thing to consider is the tire height (the 60) if I was you I would get slightly smaller, maybe 50 but thats the look I like. It wont do anything performance wise, it would just be apperance

dont hate on your SUV all-terrain/off-road tires. you'll always be ready to jump a curb to get away from the police. i cant even run over a rubber band without messing up a chrome. (knock on wood)

Re: Tire Help

Go with 245/50/16, that's what I got, at least H rated... and actually performance wise the sidewall height does make a difference, although going from 60 to 50 you probably wont notice it

Exactly thats what Chevy designed the Camaro for
97RS is right it would make a slight diffrence but you won't be able to tell. Also run your tire through a tire calculator http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp and see how far its going to throw the speedo off, it shouldn't be much

Re: Tire Help

yeah, I considered the whole speedometer thing, but I figure by taking them from 225/60 to 245/60 its shouldnt be too big of a deal but I might just fix it anyways... now do you ahve to change the gear in it or can you change the computer specs?

Re: Tire Help

it doesnt even matter enough to recalibrate unless you're doing it anyway for gears... shit people up their rim size without recalibrating

That's what I did, I was just giving him an idea on how much his speedo would be off. If he wan't to recalibrate thats great but it's not worth it until you get gears.
