SVT parts in Zetec motor?

My question to anyone with input is, can the Zetec block fit an SVT head and are the bolt patterns the same? If not, can the SVT cams be used with the Zetec head?

Re: SVT parts in Zetec motor?

They have the same block, so yes. SVT cams would work, but there are many other options too.

I believe Ford worked some magic on the SVT head ( it's really the same head, isn't it?) compared to the stock Zetec. The SVT motor is just a massaged Zetec.

Could changing a base Zetec to SVT cams cause computer problems or can the computer adjust to the cams? I imagine doing all this, you'd probably be considering a new chip anyway.

The sixth gear wouldn't be the problem, the 108 mph speed limiter in the base ZX3 would be if it wasn't changed. Unless you don't plan on going over 108.

As Mustangman put it, there are lots of options for tuning both SVT and the stock Zetec engine.

Maybe, but I can't see how a more agreesive cam could be a bad thing either way. Especially considering the car will be getting boost by mid spring. Just considering it as an option.

As to the speed limiter and the stock computer. My brother found an excelent piggy back that should help cleap up the air/fuel and also controls ignition timing and rev limits... I should be able to overide the speed limiter with it as well.

Thanks for all of your input...

As it seems to follow the same thread of thought: What about swapping in the SVT exhaust from the header back? I'm sure you'd have to make your own supports, but what about attaching it to the head? From what I've heard the shorty headers a ZX3 needs burn out cats and it'd be nice to have the cat moved further down the exhaust.

Re: SVT parts in Zetec motor?

For any exhaust on the Zetec Focus, (if the money is available) I would get a full length race header, then attach the cat further down in the exhaust to pass inspection...it really sucks that the cat has to be directly after the exhaust manifold on the Focus...

Re: SVT parts in Zetec motor?

The SVT cams won't work, as the SVT has variable timing, and the regular Zetec does not have the accomodations for the extra parts...
The SVT head should work though (but you might need to swap ECU's as well, to control the cams and the DSI

Cuz you don't have to own a car to know about it, and I know zetec engines, and VCT equiped VCT zetecs better. I happen to have one.

Was that English? If I'm understanding you correctly, then you are mistaken, since the SVT is also a 4 cylinder...

Re: SVT parts in Zetec motor?

i think he means would it be more benifical to just turbo the non svt zetec opposed to swapping a svt zetec into a regular zetec focus.
