Question sunroof problem

my 94 coupe has a problem with the sunroof, it gets stuck when i tilt it open, it looks like the motor is a little worn out cause it feels a little rough, but i took it apart and found nothing, exept a lot of grind plastic in the little pinion that moves the two spiral screws that opens the roof, dont know where it comes from, but i cleaned it and it works a little better, but it still gets stuck half way, it doesnt have any problem sliding, and the ruber around the glass its ok and no rust either. i greased it very well and it work like for 2 days, any sugestion will be most apreciated. thanx

Re: sunroof problem

What did you use to grease it with? Was it really dry when you greased it?
You may have already done too much damage to the motor if it was dry when you greased it.

Re: sunroof problem

i didnt grease any electrical parts, i used some motul go-kart chain grease on the pinion and those spiral things that the motor rotate to open the roof, after cleaning them with a tooth brush of course. then after installing it i realize i put the tilt sensor wrong and dismounted it again and it was alrready cloged with only one slide open. and yes, it was dry.

Re: sunroof problem

That wasn't what I was talking about, sorry should have been more specific. I was talking about the slides on each side of the sunroof. If they become dry then it creates an extra load on the motor and gears. And yes it would seem that there should be some sort of grease on the gears too. Try the slides and grease them real good with some multi purpose grease. If that does not fix your problem then you must have a problem with the clutch on the motor or a problem with the slides or clearances.

Just got a '95 EX, the moonroof tilts fine, but gets stuck after going back maybe after an 1/2". When you greased yours did you take it apart from the inside?

Making some progress...I found that if I grab the back while it's tilted, it will go back smooth. It seems that after it tilts, it gets cocked and gets stuck, maybe... Or maybe the motor isn't strong enough...

Re: sunroof problem

i didnt really fix mine, it seems to be the motor isnt strong enough, couse it only stucks when tilting, not sliding, it opens about a quarter and stops, i took it apart and lube it and it improved a little, but if it gets stuck all i have to do is push it a little and it opens allrigth

That' s what mine does, it tilts fine, but after it tilts it only goes back 1/2" and stops. I agree that it seems to be a motor problem, but not sure. Hopefully others will chime in...
