new project car

My dad bought my brother (15 yrs old) a honda for his first car.. its a civic ls (not sure), first honda ive been working on.. it has been ragged out..

it was abandoned and then stolen..

it starts with a screwdriver.. and uses a golf tee to go into gear..
its dented to hell.. the brake lights dont work.. the engine is a 2.x 4banger i believe...

it is missing something on the left side of the valve cover.. its just a hole.. like a bolt or nut might have went in. when its running it spurts oil all over the hood.. what might this be?

one of the cv joints are bad.. and the tierod (im guessing) is screwed up.. i think thats wat it is.. but i never seen one with a boot on it..
Im a cavalier entusiast but i'd like to have fun with this honda project..

i ripped out the carpet and seats today.. day1..

First thing, it's not an Ls, maybe an Lx, but not ls,
Second, civics dont come with 2L engines, it might have a b20b swap or h22 but i strongly doubt it.

and third, good luck, you should have started with something in better shape, what are your plans for it?

hmm now i sound stupid.. i told you i knew nothing about them.. lol.. i have no clue what the engine is.. all the stickers and shit are gone.. all i know is that it has a "16 something" written on the top of it...

my plans for it are to make it runnable.. and clean.. hah good luck to me..

Sounds like your missing the oil cap from the valve cover. As far as engine, look for the engine designation. Probably d15 something.. forget what LX's are.
