Confusing Ad

First off: Hello everyone!

Ok I recently decided that I need a new car (driving an emberassing '88 Grand AM). I'm not gonna lie..... initially I was looking at the ever popular Mustang (my brothers are mustang nuts) until I stumbled across the 3S's. I would personally prefer a 3000 GT over a Stealth simply for the rareness and added standard features so needless to say I have been searching high and low. I found an ad for what appears to be a very nice '92 VR4, but the ad is confusing:
http://www.canadatrader.com/result/d...8829077&pgno=1

You'll notice that they list it as a 4 cyl?!?! Ok we'll say that one was a typo. You'll also notice it is listed as an Automatic whereas I was under the impression that VR4's only came in Manual flavours?
I would LOVE to go and see the car unfortunately I live in Manitoba and its way out in B.C. .

Now I also found this stealth which is very close by:

http://www.canadatrader.com/result/d...9466964&pgno=1

They dont list the mileage but they do offer a 2 year warranty (hopefully Lubrico as my Dad is a Lubrico certified mechanic).

What do you think? I should also mention I am talking with the dealer who shares my dads shop and he is gonna keep his eye open for me when he goes to his dealer only auctions. He already mentioned he knows of a guy in Calgary selling a VR4 but he had no details for me yet.

Any insight/info is appreciated!

Re: Confusing Ad

well the 1st car does have the active aero spoiler, so it very well could be a VR-4, but see if they can give you a picture of the engine bay, and that kinda stuff, it'd be easier to tell... The stealth doesn't look to bad either, but the best thing to do would be to go and check everything out yourself, and if you have a friend who lives in/closer to B.C. have him do it for ya.

Yeah I'm heading into Winnipeg this weekend for a friends stag party so I'll check out the stealth then.

As for the first car it also says its a twin turbo and I've never heard of a 4 cyl twin turbo.

The dealer has a website so I'll fire off an email and see if I can get some answers.

Re: Confusing Ad

Also I just noticed in the pic that you can see that it does say 3000 GT VR4 on the back.

Some dealers dont know jack. I almost got sold an avenger which the dealer said was an Eclipse a few months ago. how in the world that happened beats me. I also see the auto-manual mistake all the time. I just bought another car like 2 months ago. half the cars we looked at during the search where miss-labeled.

Re: Confusing Ad

You know if this is just a case of an idiot dealer this car looks to be a pretty good deal. I think I'll call them tomorrow and get some info and the VIN.

Re: Confusing Ad

The VR4 looks nice, but I wonder about the price. It looks high to me. I just bought a '92 VR4 with 74K miles, new leather interior, tires, plugs, wires, timing belts, and more for $5000. Maybe it's the difference in Canadian vs. American dollars. Or maybe I got a better deal than I thought I did.

Re: Confusing Ad

yes the price is in CDN$...... and I guess VR4's sell for more up here . That is actually a very low price. In fact it has me wondering why its so low. To contrast there is an almost identical car (although they dont list mileage) for $15,995 but it is admittedly overpriced.

Also the mileage listed on this car is in Km's so its roughly 73K miles. If it wasnt for customs/duty charges it would almost be worth buying from the states at the prices I see around here.

Re: Confusing Ad

$5000 for 74k on a VR4 is unheard of no matter the year, don't get the idea that that's what they go for in the states, i've seen the same car go for $12,000. Zx just happens to be one lucky sob.

That stealth is way over priced, and unless you go check out that 3000GT completely (carfax, service records, take it to a trusted mechanic, test drive) then I wouldn't buy it just because i've had a lot of experience with dealers and when they don't know jack shit about the car and can't even list an ad for it right, then it's anybody's guess as to the running condition of the car.
