stiffer suspension

I've got an 87 Nissan 4x4 pickup, lookin to put a HD bumper and winch on it and wondering if anyone knows of a way to stiff up the front suspension to handle the extra weight. I broke a torsion bar wheelin the other day, so I'm putting in another set of torsion bars and then modifying them to get extra lift, but that doesn't stiffen it up. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: stiffer suspension

With torsion bars, cranking them up is really all you can do. It does stiffen the ride, although not much. You may be able to find some full-size torsion bars that will fit your nissan.

I think that torsion bars do stiffen it up pretty good. I cranked mine up an inch and before I used to be able to push down on the front of the hood and make the truck go down, now If I push on it it barely moves, I can notice it in the ride too.

Re: stiffer suspension

Yes, you can adjust the torsion bars to "stiffen" up the front of the vehicle...which is why it lifts it too.
