Not to be rude or anything, but i highly doubt that you're gonna find any crate motors for $1500 or less... As far as i have seen or heard lately, probably the cheapest crate motor you're gonna find is gonna be at least $2000 or more. A while back i was searching high and low for even a remanufactured motor for my 4-cylender honda prelude for $1500 or less, too... but the cheapest crate motor that i could ever find was around $2400, and even for a rebuilt motor (which is almost as good as a crate motor as far as I'm concerned) the cheapest price i found was about $2000 plus shipping and such. I'd recommend probably just start looking for a low milage motor thats in excellent condition. Generally, you can find decent used motors for like $400 on up to $1500, depending on who/where you buy it from, and how low the milage.

you can find them but keep in mind you get what you pay for. save your pennies and wait, or do like i did and buy new parts that occassional pop up on places like Ebay. Ive for 4k tied up in an engine that should have cost me at least 7k. If I were to do it again, i would have done certain or more machining. Chk this out below:
