BOV RELEASING AIR AT IDLE (bov vacuum lines wrong?)

I have the sr20det red top with front mount ic and hks SS bov... my bov is releasing air at idle... then the valve closes when i give it throttle... i have one vacuum line going to the bov straight from intake. also... does the little nipple on the end of the bov need to be connected to anything? please help

I had this problem, it could be that the spring in the blowoff valve is too weak.

Pull it apart and add in some spacers to compress the spring a bit. See if that gets you your vacuum back.

But I'd suggest in getting a proper spring, rather than using spacers.

EDIT: my fix will only work if your BOV is properly installed... I'm sure these guys can tell you whats up better than I can. I just drive the damn car, I don't work on it.

the spring might be the initial cause of the problem. whats probably happening is the spring might not be strong enough to hold at idle so its leaking air, which isn't measured by the maf, and you're probably running crazy rich cause the air isn't coming back into the intake and the ecu is sending more gas than it should.. try getting another spring. i think they come in different colours.. and i'd suggest going to recirculated venting. you could connect the nipple to your intake first to see if that would help (put it before the maf so the air is measured and you won't run rich).. if it doesn't then try a new spring.

try unscrewing the cap.. should come right off.. be careful when the spring comes out

since we added in the washers to compress my spring, it holds steady at 19-22lbs of vacuum.

Idles perfect, even with a 9.5lb Fidanza flywheel.

that will work too but for some reason i'm skeptical about the washers.. they might impede the air flow.. or not, i can't tell.

Well actually, Tat and I have noticed that the car seems to have a much better pull with the bov VTA(Vent To Atmosphere). I think it spools harder.

If the BOV is releasing air at idle, then your lines are correct. no vacuum=closed. Try a stronger spring. This is one reason I like the Greddy Type S. I like to be able to adjust it.

It doesn't make you a ricer to want the BOV sound if you have a turbo. It shows that you have something good under the hood, that's all. A ricer would be someone who would have a can of compressed air to make the BOV sound when he's got an 86hp engine.

lol tru dat. Its kinda of like the kids who buy a nitrous setup, leave it unfunctional, but they still have the blow by valve, so they can spray it and look cool. Super fast n furious stylez yo.

They sell kits like that, all they do is purge, but it's not connected to the engine. The kit is specifically for purdging.

Thats the first time ive ever even heard of that, especially from you...but i still think that people who are against recirculation are kinda ricey, but try both and see which feels better...are all BOV's adjustable?
