ca18det or sr20det

I am wanting to do a motor swap for my 93 nissan 240sx. I have not been able to find a lot of info on the ca18det. I am interested in both drag and drift. I would like to build a car that has about 300 to 350 rwhp. If someone can point me in the right direction to find info on the ca18, I would appreciate it. Also any opinions on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Re: ca18det or sr20det

heres a rundown. ca18 high mileage more then likely. sr20 probablly your better bet between the 2 engines. have u considered keeping the KA and turboing that?

Re: ca18det or sr20det

purely up to you. both are potential kick-assers. the Ca will be cheaper but th Sr will obviously have more stock power. Plus, the Sr is relatively newer than the Ca... means lower mileage and fresher internals. But, if you're aiming towards 350whp you'll need to upgrade them anyway so it really doesn't matter.

There are threads in this forum about those engines... you can search it up. But basically it comes down to - there is no "better" engine... it's how you tune it, how much money you put in, and the effort/time you sacrifice for it. I personally would go with the Sr... more torque than a 1.8 litre hence good for low speed drifts.

Re: ca18det or sr20det

CA is cheaper, therefore you could do a swap and do some upgrades to the ca to get higher numbers. CA is better in US as you can get parts for it, It is more rev friendly, stronger and I think overall a better built motor than SR. Out of nissan 4cylinder I like the KA and CA, KA being the winner as it has 1/3 more displacement.

Re: ca18det or sr20det

Actually, there is much better aftermarket support in the US for the SR then the CA.

i think he meant maintenance parts.. pretty much 99% of the parts (water pump, gaskets, etc.) for it can be found from the CA18DE in a 1988 Nissan Pulsar NX SE

Re: ca18det or sr20det

Yes, I meant maintaince, not performance, sorry about not specifying that, thanks for correcting me. And yes, the weak part of the CA is such little aftermarket support.
