Infinity Premium Sound System
I have a '94 Grand Cherokee and am getting hardly any sound from the left channel of the sound system, front and rear. The only way I can hear anything on the left channel is if I turn the volume up all the way and then I can barely hear some sound. I brought it to a shop today and they put two radios in and it did the same thing. I was told it was the amplifier.
Well, I went to a junk yard and plugged another amp into it and it did the same thing. No sound from the left channel, front or rear. There has to be a common wire that supplies the left channel that is bad. Would anyone know what wire it would be? What color? Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks everyone

Re: Infinity Premium Sound System
Doesn't your car have separate amps on each speaker or is that only the minivans? I'd pull a speaker and put a meter on the wires. If I'm not mistaken, I think the "tweeters" run straight off the stereo while the "woofer" is the one that's amplified.

I had a similar issue. Checking prices on everything, I decided to replace it all. I really like my Kenwoods and they were 140.00 for 4. There are diagrams on the internet for replacing the factory 2 ohm amp with something a little more compatable and a standard chrysler pigtail will wire up any head unit.
BTW, all six run off of the amp (tweeters, front doors and rear doors).

Re: Infinity Premium Sound System
Its funny time and time again. Those infinity systems must really SUCK! I'm always reading about problems with them. If you are truly into listening to decent sounding music (even without the BOOM). Just swap out the factory system with an aftermarket system. You don't have to spend alot to get alot. Keep your eyes open while online or in a store and even check it out on ebay.

Re: Infinity Premium Sound System
sounds like either a bad sending wire or bad speaker(s)

Infinity is right up there with Bose, Harmon Kardon, Alpine, and Audiobahn in sound quality. So check your facts before saying these things. Or get an Infinity system and hear what you've been missing.

Oh, I'm not saying they suck. I'm just saying that they seem unreliable because I'm always seeing people on here with problems with their "Infinity" systems. Personally, I prefer the high quality Infinity small speakers over the ones I have installed in mine, but I'm running my all Audiobahn system. I prefer MB Quart over Infinity, so I'm definitely not saying my stuff is better than yours or anyones for that fact. I've been in car audio entertainment for years.....SO I've checked my facts Mr. Porscheguy that's on a Jeep Forum. |

Re: Infinity Premium Sound System
My dad's zj had the "infinity system". it was good for a while but fell hard. He said: "I can't belive Infinity put their name on this CR@P!" I didn't see them, but he said it had paper cones with foam surrounds. I would go aftermarket before dropping factory prices on this system. spend the money on a real infinity system that isn't hiding behind a little gold paint.

Actually You are wrong even if you wont admit it. SHEER NUMBERS prove it, Since the INFINTY sound system has been used from the early 90's right on to current, in almost EVERY chrysler product, the numbers you are seeing are not all that high in comparison. It's called a statistical analysis, and without considering it it's just rumor mongoring. Now if it were something that was excusive to one vehicle for a limited time frame with the same number of failures it would be a different story. Many people have complained about the paper cones and foam surrounds on the speakers but this is done for a reason and it isnt cost. Poly cones have been proven to fail at a greater rate in automotive applications than the carbon fiber paper cones as a result of warpage due to the extreme temperature ranges the interior of a closed vehicle goes through. If a auto mfg were to use poly cones they would have an expected life span of less than half that of the vehicle and just think about the complaints THAT would generate on virtually every vehicle that made it to say 75K. Yes more expensive luxury and high end sports cars do use poly conw based speakers but two things are different. First as they are high end vehicles they generally do not sit out in the ice and snow or the scortching summer heat with all the windows closed and secondly, as they are marketed to the more affluent buyers, the cost of replacing them isnt an issue asthe autos generally arent kept for more than a handful of years on the luxury cars and the stereos are secondary to the performance and handling of the sports car, In either case the vehicle owners have the money to easily replace the warped speakers. Oh yes, How do I know this? I'm a retiered electronics engineer with a background in mechanical engineering and I worked my way through college installing high end stereos in exotic cars such as Rolls, Jags, ferarris and so on. Re: Infinity Premium Sound System
Thats tellling them. Now mine has the button doing the job of the button next to it problem. I understand that this is a simple cleaning issue. Can you tell me why my Infinity won't play any new discs but old ones play fine.

I've never understood why it's so maligned, it is one of the best sounding factory sound systems available. It isn't an expensive after market system, but that is not a fair comparison. |

Re: Infinity Premium Sound System
I agree most systems sound like junk now days, but not everyone is going for sound quality. Have you heard of db Drags? Most of the categories there are going for SPL as well as sound quality. Alot of people don't know enough about stereo systems and speaker placement/angles. I'm not one to crank up my amps all the way just to get it louder...I do care about quality of sound but I do want great SPL at the same time.
