Question Scrawny rubber on a 2006, 2500HD 4x4.....

I have read other sources that state various tires that will fit the factory 16x6.5 rims, but always felt unsure about proposed sizes. Can somebody give me some useful info about going to a taller/wider tire for this rim?

you will not get any fat rubber on a 6.5" rim. check out your local tire shop that sells a lot of after market wheels. 1\2 ton 4 wheelers will take either a 315-70-16 or 285-75-16 but a 2500hd sets higher.
check them out. i did not say buy, just hear the sales pitch.

I think thats a miss print ,6.5"cause there is no way a 2500 4x4 came with 6.5 inch rims. He meant 16.5"x8-10" i bet which is what mine and all the rest of the 4x4's that came with 16's have...jj

Definitely NOT a misprint. They are indeed 16x6.5 no matter what style wheel it has on the HD. I changed mine from the lower level 16x6.5 stamped chrome to the upgraded cast aluminum HD wheels but they are still 6.5" wide. However, I have 285/75/16 Yokohama's on them and they fit well, wear well, and look great. My speedo's off about 9% and my effective ratio went from 4.10 to about 3.80. Your '06 should be able to have the speedo reprogrammed. Be ready for a slight fuel mileage drop. I had to trim my front valance slightly. Some folks use 305/70/16 but that's pressing it.

both of my OBS 2500's also had 16x6.5 steels.
