Dashboard Gear switcher
I recently bought a 1990 buick leSabre, it has a few small issues. One of them being my needle on the dashboard that tells me what gear i'm in doesn't move to the gear I select. So I have to count the clicks, which is kind of annoying. Does anyone have any helpful hints on how to get the dasboard off? Is it just like the screws on the fuse panel? thanks for any help you guys can give me.

Re: Dashboard Gear switcher
The dash is held on by 6 screws across the front and two screws in the defroster vents on top. You need to pry up the plastic grate to get at them. The instrumentation unit is just held on by 4 screws and pulls straight back to remove.

Re: Dashboard Gear switcher
Once you get the dash piece off, you will probably have to rehook the little string that runs to the gear indicator onto the plastic piece around the steering wheel that pivots when you change gears. It probably just slipped off. It kind of slips on to the plastic and has a little metal piece on the end that is supposed to dig into the plastic. It shouldn't be too tough, but it helps if you have little hands and fingers. Some long needle nose pliers also help because it is kind of hard to get slipped on there tight. Somebody may have had it apart before and decided not to dink around with trying to get it back on.
