Re: Tranny fluid leak, possible power steering?
You can't tell the difference? Is it amber or red? Which side is it coming from? Passenger side, probably tranny fluid. Driver side probably power steering.

trace the cause directly above where the spots are on the ground.
We can't see it for you bro. You have to get under there to find it.

Re: Tranny fluid leak, possible power steering?
Could be the transfer case overflowing due to a bad tranny transfer case seal causing the transfer case to overflow.
Take the fill plug out of the transfer case and see if any fluis pours out which SHOULDN'T happen. Just do it while the truck is level.

Could also be oil from the filter or cooler lines.....color would be helpful.

Re: Tranny fluid leak, possible power steering?
Red should be tranny fluid, but some people will use tranny fluid in the power steering pump when needed.
First question is.....are you sure the puddle is from your truck? Sounds like a dumb question, but I have parked over puddles before and thought they were mine until I checked it out. If it is yours, I would start with the tranny lines. Check them for leaks. Keep in mind that they may leak in other places and then the fluid will run down the line to the point where it falls. |
