whistiling/whining in 4th gear hatch..

Hey guys I have a 91 hatch, when Im in 1,2, and 3rd gear everything runs smooth and fine. But when I shift into 4th gear I get a whistling/whining sound. It gets louder as I accelerate more. There is nothing noticable though physically when driving it. It just sounds annoying and cant be anything good. The engine is a d15b1. All stock also. Thanks guys/gals

There's not to many people online now, everyone comes out at night. Is it coming from the tranny side of the car or the drivers side.

hard to tell honestly, seems like it comes out of the all the vents like it is hard to pinpoint it..

and it's only in 4th gear. Check you fluid level in the tranny, make sure it's not low or anything. But if it can be heard alittle all the time, could be a blower motor for you heat or a/c or something or a throw out bearing in the tranny but in just 4th is weird. Is it hard to shift into 4th or anything?

nope its easy to shift into it. It runs especially well IMO in third gear, Im not huge motor head or anything but in third gear I get up to around 60ish before I feel I have to shift into 4th. But other then the "noise" there is nothing wrong with how it runs/shifts or anything.

hmm, well check your fluid just to make sure, maybe someone will be on here later that has had the same issues and can pinpoint it exactly, but i am not sure whats up w/ that.

Since it's a 4 speed your final drive is the culprit. Check your fluid and don't be suprised if your tranny bearings take a walk...

I have the same thing in my CRX. It happens in all gears when I'm giving it about 1/2 throttle. I'm missing the airbox, just a filter hanging from the intake, and I'm thinking it has something to do with the intake.

what happens if the tranny bearings go bad?

time for a new tranny eventually, when peices of the bearing start to fall apart and cause other failures in the tranny i'd say.

well while Im trying to figure this one out will this exhaust work on my hatch? I emailed the person and they said they didnt know if it would. My hatch is a 91 stock d15b1 1.5 4spd.

Hey guys, I tried to hear where the sound was coming from a little more today. It sounds like its coming from dirvers side. And by the way do you check the friggin tranny fluid from the bottom of the car? Thanks and what about that exhaust I linked you too?
