New Pope

Poperize

Well in case you haven't heard, the new Pope has been elected. The dude is 78 years old, the Pope before him only lasted until he was 80. Shouldn't they shoot for soeone a bit younger perhaps?

Re: New Pope

I was going to start a thread just like this.LOL. Pope John Paul 2 was 84 when he died, this new Pope is only six years younger. Seeing that the average male's lifespan at least in America hovers in the high 70s that doesn't give him much time to get to work, ( but what's not to say he could live a long productive life into his '90s?) The oldest Pope elected was Pope Adrian I in 772 A.D. I would've thought the Cardinals would've elected someone younger (at least in his early 60s.) But this is who they believe should be in charge of the Roman Catholic Church, so let's give him a chance to see what he can do.

Re: New Pope

^Thread already started in another forum, but I'll post here too.

From what I heard, they just needed someone to carry out what John Paul II started. They needed a good conservative pope, buying them time to find a new one. That's why he is so old.

Like the democrats choosing Kerry so he'd lose. They wanted Hillary for the next term. Buying time

Re: New Pope

Maybe they should have picked a more liberal Pope, this guy dosent condone
1 Women preachers/vicars etc
2 Inter-racial marriages
3 People living in a country other than the one of thier birth. (strange that as he`s a German living in Italy?)
4 He was in the Hitler youth in his childhood !!!!!!
5 Contraception
6 Abortions.

He was obviously picked cause he`s the right man for the job and I`m not flaming him, good luck to him but his views are a bit to conservative/ old fashioned for my taste.

Not all of the canditates for Pope where conservative, a few had some quite liberal views, more befitting a Pope of the 21st century, not the dark ages.

Re: New Pope

It will be interesting to see how he adapts to the reform of the church as a whole. Will he remian steadfast aginst it, or lax his position a bit?

1. Good women shouldnt be priests, its tradition. The church loves women, they can be nuns if they want
2. Never heard of this
3. Never heard of this
4. Just because he was a German during WW2 doesnt mean he was a nazi
5. The church will always be against it
6. The church SHOULD always be against it, because its murder.

And i think they picked an old priest because he's conservative and they said they didnt want a pope to have another long term

Re: New Pope

The new pope was in the Nazi youth movement or whatever it was when he was 15 because he was forced into it. If he said no, either him his parents or both would have been killed. Once he turned 18 he got out of it. Learn your shit before you call the pope a nazi PLEASE.
