Oil pressure might be low and I have a little leak.

When I was last at the shop they discovred a tiny oil leak, not on the transfercase or pan or transaxle, somwhere up in the engine.. There is never any oil in the driveway at all and the ammount of oil never drops at all on the dipstick but its still there a little, when they mentioned that I said that I thought the pressure might be a little low since it seemed lower on this car than on the SL I had. They hooked it up to a real oil pressure gauge and they said that it was just within spec and that they wanted to go in and find out what was leaking, I think they wanted to check the pump too. The oil gauge if left at idle for a little while is like 2-3 of the small bars from the bottom which seems very low to me, at regular driving RPM (like 2k) its around the middle near the first thick bar from the bottom, when I rev it up a bit it rises a little from there. Should I be worried, I don't have the money for them to disect my car let alone replace anything, I've got just enough to buy a downpipe which will fix the ricy sound and I'd prefer to do that instead of saving up to fix a problem that might not even be a reality.

Re: Oil pressure might be low and I have a little leak.

If the oil pressure is raising when you are reving it up, there might be some kind of bad connection with your gas and that guage.. although if there is a leak.. and you know about it that might even be the problem. You should get it looked at, because if you run low on oil, dont know about it, you could easily blow your engine in no time. Just trying to help, may be right or might not be.

Your oil presure will be low at idle, esp on the stock gauge. As long as its not all the way at the bottom during idle your fine. I think mind was just above the first large mark when crusing.

Lol, I'll take a pic of it at idle later on, I want to change the rear plugs and wires today.

Does the 3000 GT or the Stealth burn oil like crazy? Or.. would that be a leak like you guys are talking about...?

I've had two and neither ever burned any oil, its just a tiny leak, I don't think I'll do anything about it (knock on wood).

I had a slow leak from the oil cooler a few years back. One of the hoses had a small crack in it.

Re: Oil pressure might be low and I have a little leak.

Mine comes from my oil cap because there's always a nice spot of fresh oil around the area. Don't really know what I could do to get rid of it... :o/

Re: Oil pressure might be low and I have a little leak.

The cap isn't very leaky, but I am getting a new front valve cover because mine is peeling and awful looking from a guy who lives near me on 3SI... Hrmm I should call him.
