93 dodge shadow not starting
I need help. I now have 20 days to get it started and finished for race season and it just will not start. We have got a new battery, it was dead, new plugs, new cap and rotor, new plug wires and new coil and they are fine but we still have no spark. I tried to wire the distributer straight to the battery and i think I fried something because there was smoke coming from the driver side fender beside the battery. I took out the piece and it was a circut board. I literally set the point where the wire from the distributer goes into the board on fire. Could this be why its not starting? I tried looking for a short and i so far cant find one. Im totally lost at this point and any help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. what is the part that I fried because the dealer over the phone said that it was the headlight module but there is a direct link from it to the dist. Thanks Jeff |

Hello, It sounds like the part you fried was the engine control computer(the brain), You could try picking one up at a salvage yard , but should be the same year and engine type as the one you have, But I think you might be better off with a new one, that you know will work. As far as the no fire part goes if you've tried everything else you might try looking at the module under the distributor cap, I had a problem with stalling then eventually no starting with no fire, I had tried everything, turned out to be the module. Good luck, hope this helps.

Re: 93 dodge shadow not starting
by your air cleaner tube and the battery, there's a black box w/ wires going to it. That's your PCM or engine brain.

Hello, yes the module under the distributer cap. if you pull off the rotor youll be able to pull up the module, its connected to the control wires doing to the dist. This was the cause of all my problems.

Re: Re: 93 dodge shadow not starting
the module may have been the root of your problems, but the PCM you fried will definately need to be replaced

Re: 93 dodge shadow not starting
on the 2.5, there is no module under the distributor, that's your hall-effect sensor. The ignition module is integrated in the PCM, so you'll end up having to replace the PCM anyway.
