Question exhaust for 1970 maverick

I have a 1970 ford maverick that only has a 170 cu.in. motor.I plan on eventually re-placing this with a 302 down the road, but, until i get the money i'm stuck with the existing motor.Someone suggested that i re-place the carb and get a dual exhaust.Considering that it's a re-built 6 cyl. would that be a waste of money? And would dual exhaust on that kind of motor make it sound like a rice-burner?Or would the above suggestions give it a performance boost? If i'm gonna be stuck with my current motor for awhile i'd like it to be stronger than what it is.I am open to whatever suggestions anyone might have and would highly appreciate your responses. Thank you

i have a 1972 ford maverick with a 351 windsor but before that i had the 200 straight 6 with a home made 3" exaust and flowmaster 40 series

sounded cool for the first 2 seconds then it got annoying

nothing like a rice burner but more like a sick hick car

it gave it a little more power to me but not much

my 200 only had a wimpy 84 horsepower when dynoed before scrapping it for a 250 hp 351 windsor
