customs cost for importing parts?

would anyone, specifically in Canada, be able to tell me from experience or some knowledge how to find out how much customs would charge to import a part into Canada from the US? this is what's holding me back a bit from replacing my muffler right now.

if you can help me out i'd appreciate it cuz i'd like to get ordering it so i can get rid of my nasty sounding exhaust.

Re: customs cost for importing parts?

Depends on where you live, typicaly all you need to do is pay the 7% gst on the value of the item, depending on who is the shipper sometime brokerage fees apply (don't use UPS, fedex is best).

I got tired of the whole custom/brokerage so i get stuff shipped to the US border, go pick it up and declare it to customs myself... it's worth the 1 hour drive rather than the 30-60$ brokerage.

but small items are typicaly not too bad.

Im in Saskatoon, SK. The exhaust is going to cost about $125 for the part itself, and another $42 for shipping (in US currency). The part is being sold by 4g4dStore (sp) on ebay and on his site. Im not sure what company will be the shipper, but i'll find that out i guess.

Having the part shipped to the border and driving to pick it up myself wont be an option cuz i wont have the time or the money to make that happen.

i was charged about $50 canadian for customs on my tail lights, so im just worried that i could get hit with a cost much higher than that.

Re: customs cost for importing parts?

unfortunatly depending on the shipping company... if it's ups expect a $30 (minimum) brokerage Fee on top of the taxes.

125us = 154cnd 154 * 0.07 = $10.78

10.78 + 30 + 7% $43 (taxes on taxes, fucked I know)

so expect to pay about $45 or so depending on how it was shipped.

Re: customs cost for importing parts?

you could also have 4g4dr claim it at a much lower price or as a gift this way you will avoid the higher chargers.
