98 ram died on wife :(

She was coming home from work and said the truck wouldn't go over 10 miles an hour. I got there to check it out and it ran fine. Well for about 5 minutes. THen when you gas it, it just doesn't go above 1000 rpm's. I was wondering if anyone had any idea's. Someone said the cat might be plugged? Would it do that after only 5 minutes of running? The truck never dies completely just wont rev up. And you can hear the sucking through the air cleaner get real loud. I took off the filter and housing and still makes that noise. My wife said when i hit the gas, it even smelt funny. Seems like the motor is running real hot too.

Chubby's mom? HAHA. He pm'ed me already.

Now that you mentioned the smell here, it might be the cat. I suggested the IAC and TPS earlier.

Bad gas?

How many miles on this truck? Er motor at least?

Running hot? What does the gauge say?

When my cat went the first time it made the passenger's side exhaust manifold red hot. Like glowing.

Is any exhaust coming out of the pipe?

Update,
My buddy moved my truck. Now the engine light came on and it even stalls now. Didn't run forthe first 5 minutes like last time. I had him check the exhaust and he said there is alot of air coming out. So I guess that rules out the cat. The other thing he said was when he was tryingto go down the road, while pressing on the gas the check engine light which is on now, it blinks when the gas pedal is applied.

Sometimes if the cat warms up the truck will run better, Or bad gas getting try getting a water remover\ fuel injector cleaner from a car parts store, it'll run you about two bucks

actually when the truck warmed up it got worse. Now it wont run at all and the check engine light did come on. I am having a mechanic just come and run the codes to see.

Is it getting fuel? My 98 ram 5.9 recently had similar symptoms, turned out to be the fuel pump - not cheap.

Yes checked the fuel pump and it is getting plenty of fuel. Found out that the cat is plugged. The only problem is the cat is welded to the head pipe and cant find that pipe at any local auto parts stores

Cut the converter out with a torch. Clean it out or replace it. Weld the new one back in the exhaust path.
