1993 lesabre spudders loses acceleration and stalls when less than a half tank of gas

Has anyone ever heard of this problem. I thought that this could be the feul pump but a mechanic told me taht the pressure was good. If the car has a full tank no problems it runs fine. Less than half tank and it starts to lose power, run poorly and stall when stopping.

Any ideas?

Pete....

My 92 Bonneville had this problem, turned out there is a plastic resevoir in the gas tank. Not sure exactly what its purpose is but it was cracked and caused this problem. Had to bbuy a new tank which wasn't cheap.

Fuel Pump Strainer!

My 93 limited did that when it was on quater tank. Also when I made sharp right turns like coming of the exit ramps. The problem was easliy fixed by droping the gas tank, then replacing the FUEL STRAINER. This is mounted directly bellow the fuel pump. Everyone told me it was the pump, but I knew it was not. It would pump hard when I was turning left. The new Fuel Pumper strainer was like 17 $ . Car runs great now.
I would replace the strainer before the pump.
