1991 Regal 2-door
I have a few q's regarding the '91 regal.
1. What is the proper proceedure for removing the old stereo? What different factory models for this stereo were available? 2. What is the problem with the frame style on this car? I've heard that they have problems, but never told specifics. 3. Is there an easy way to change the molding around the sunroof? it's aluminum painted black, and has oxidized. 4. the cig. lighter doesn't work-no power. where is the fuse for it located (or does the stereo have to be connected for it to work)? 5. the blinkers seem to blink more slowly than normal. All lights work. Thanks for any help.

1) Remove the fake wood trim from the dash. It just snaps into place so you can just pry it off. Remove the bolts around the radio control head and tape or cd player and unplug the wires behind them. The actual tuner/amplifier is a silver box mounted under the dash on the passenger side. This is where the speaker, power, and antenna wires are located.
The regal was available with either - just a radio tuner - a radio tuner with a cassette player - a radio tuner with a cassette player and equalizer - a radio tuner with a cd player 2) The only frame problems that I have heard of with the 88-96 regal is that the rear engine cradle bolts can corrode and pull out of the body. There was a recall for this so the dealership should fix the problem if it exists. The only other problem that I can think of is that the sliders on the rear brake calipers tend to bind up over time and need to be replaced. 3) I'm not sure about the sunroof molding. I'd be reluctant to try replacing it since your sunroof may start to leak if you take it apart and put it back together. The easiest thing to do is just mask off the roof & glass and spray paint the moulding black. 4) There is a fuse pannel inside the glove box on the left side. That's probably where the lighter fuse is. I don't think that the stereo should have any effect on the lighter. 5) The blinkers on my car blink more quickly than any other car I have owned. The speed is determined by the blinker module which is located under the dash on the driver's side, next to the steering column. As the modules get old they tend to blink faster or slower. I am not sure why some blink slower while others get faster, but a blinker module is very inexpensive so you can put in a new one if you want. |
