2001 Cherokee Sport MIL Light On

MIL light comes on once a week or so. Smoke test revealed no leaks in the system. Any hints out there? Jeep runs fine, gas cap okay, no fumes etc.

The 2001-2002 XJs had a faulty hydraulic fan solenoid circut that could cause the MIL to intermittantly go on and off. Check with your repair shop. The replacement for DTC P1499 is p/n 05102210AA.

Sorry, I meant the 2001 XJs with the 4.0L and the 2002 Grand Cherokees with the 4.0L engine

Try again, dude.XJ's never had the hydraulic fan,only WJ's and only with a 4.7.I know what solenoid you are talking about ,it's from a tsb,07-005-02,to be specific,and it applies to 01-04 WJ's.And why would you tell him to get that if he didn't even say what dtc he has?

You are absolutely right. What was I thinking? Too many hours at work.
I checked my references. I think we should suggest he return to a dealer. The code thing is too complex without the right tools. I was referring to a fix in the past that did turn out to be the 4.7L. I guess I have a bad memory. Very sorry.
