Question 93 merc topaz trans problem

heres my problem. i have a 1993 mercury topaz. 2.3 autumatic trans. my problem is,,as i was driving it, it suddenly went into neutral, as if i'd kicked it out of gear. there was no warning. the shifter works fine, and the linkage at the trans also appears to be working. whenever i shift from park into one of the driving gears, the RPM briefly increase slightly (approx. 100 RPM), as if the computer is trying to do something. on this particular model, the trans is controlled by a microcomputer. if anyone has any experience with this, and knows what causes this, any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Re: 93 merc topaz trans problem

Its not computer controlled....its all fluid.....70% for first 40% for second
You probably have a bad torque converter,If is still acts this way the the tranny needs to be dropped and looked at by a pro.

Of course you could look and see if you tv rod is connected. It has a spring and connecting metal rod connects from the throttle to a arm on the tranny.Make sure they are hooked up.
If you need more help try getting a haynes automotive repair book at the nearest auto parts store. They'll be pictures in the book to help.
