Lost a gear

Hi, I'm new here, but hoping someone can answer a question.

Over the weekend I lost second gear in my 99 SL2. I shifted into second, the stick jumped out of my hand, and now whenever I shift to second the car acts as if it's in nuetral. All the other gears are fine.

Any ideas? I'm hoping this is something I can fix myself.

I've had several issues with my 2001 Saturn SC2. The tranny & clutch being the biggest (and yes I know how to drive standard). Before the whole thing blew up I had problems shifting from 1st gear to 2nd. It was very sticky and would ALWAYS grind in cold weather. Took Saturn FOREVER to finally agree there was a problem but after a little bit of arguing they agreeded to cover it under the powertrain warranty. Bad news is about 400km later the tranny blew. Dealer said they didn't mess anything up during"repairs". Ya, right!
