03 matrix, stops at certain speed

i have a toyota matrix xr 2003, it really pisses me off that my speed just stops at 95 mph. I totally feel like i have the power to go faster but it just wont once it hits that 95 mph mark. is it my ecu that does it ? how do i reset it, if so ?

yeah its a limiter, call up some performance shops see if they can reporamm ecu or remove the limit physically

on my old 240, there were wires you could cut off the transmission to eliminate the 4th and 5th gear sensors. as well as the speed limiter off the ecu. i dont know for sure what it is on these cars, but do a little research and see if you can find anything. with a new car like that though, i dont know if you really want to cut anything

Thats weird, i got 2003 Xr also and it doesnt stop, it hits all the way up to 140mph till it his the rev limiter there. Is your 5 speed or automatic? My is automatic.

yeah mine is automatic too. i posted that a while ago, and since then i have gone past what i "thought" was the limiter. so its all good now thanks for ur info. is ur engine stock, or do u have any upgrade stuff ?

Bahh i should really start looking at the dates of people's posts LOL. Any way i got cold air intake and wheels 18x7 on 225/40 tires, so the outside diameter of the wheels is same as stock so it doesnt change anything. Its lowered also. I test drove an XRS yestarday, Im thinking of trading my in for one. When i got this one it was for my wife thats why i got the automatic and now i had another kid so we got a van for her, now i get to drive it. Ill have to think about it and see if i wana trade it in or not.

I do hope you're kidding; there's no way an xr tops out at 140mph.

Umm well i have the trd cold air intake but thats preaty much it, it rev limits right at 140mph mark so i dont see why you say it wouldnt... it puts out 140hp stock i would guess 142-145 with the intake, the stock exhaus it huge and doesnt really need an upgrade, comparable 325i bmw that i have tops out at exact same speed.. maybe little more but any car hit 140 on highway if its arount that HP figure.

First of it puts out 130hp stock for the base, xr and xrs is at 180hp. The tach on an xr doesn't go up to 140mph, unless you're talking about 140kmph.

Not to to flame but you're misleading other members that do not know and either you don't have a clue what you're talking about or you're just talk bs.

XR is 140hp stock not 130, the speedometor not the tach stops at 120mph if you dont know what the instruments are called dont bother posting, the ~140mph reading i got was with the GPS and looking at the "Speedometor" go over the scale. If you dont know what your talking about don't "flame" The guy in your link is from california where the emmision rgulations are stricter and the cars are tuned down to meet them. Again if you dont know what your talking about read before you post and say some one is wrong.

Hmm after posting.... i thought i'd find a link on toyota's page on the specifications of the engine, i found them, they are 10hp off from what the booklet says. if you wana look its at http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/2005/matrix/specs.html
they quote the XRS as 170hp, i remember the XRS always as being 180hp, possibly they lowered it from the first release. I remember a similar thing toyota did with the MR2, when it first came out we had one sitting at the dealer lot, i specifially remember looking at the engine, it was a VVTL-i , i KNOW it was because i remember looking at the valve cover and it said it was and i thought it was cool that they put a nice 180hp (here again it WAS 180hp before) engine in a MR2. If you look now they dont come with that engine. Seems toyota likes to beef up their specs and they are eather lying in the begining or they are tuning the cars down for some reason, i would guess the first.

You can stop posting before you're going to embarrass yourself further. It was an example just to show you how bs you were. I actually looked at my friend tachometer, it has 180(km of course) on it and 2 more dash which makes roughly 200 (120 mile in us) so please don't sit here and tell me an xr can outrun an xrs. If you say that in www.matrixowners.com, they would laugh at your face.

Incase you didn't know, the stock celica gt is 140hp, Matrix base stock 127hp, xr 130hp, xrs 180 ('03 and '04, to answer your thread below); although '04 did advertised at 180 but somehow it was only 173hp and some people did complained about it and got back 250cad (not sure if any us got back anything); '05 170hp but I'm not sure what the real hp is since none of the guys in MO did any dyno yet.

Further more, '04 did make more hp than '03 of course with dyno proven.

P.S. you found the specs for those matrixes so now who is flaming who? I do think you owe everyone on this forum an apology.

I think you can kiss my ass first of all, second of all I never claimed an XR can out run an XRS, second of all what does 180kph have to do with mph? did i ever say my speedo had 140mph mark? go back and read i said i had a GPS with me... maybe youdont know what a GPS is... its a global possitioning system, which has a speedometer function. PS. yes i found the specs to show you the specs. apparently toyota changes them as they seem fit or whatever so whos flaming who.. not that I care about what you or any one thinks. Sit in your little XRS and enjoy your self with your 180hp and whatever top speed limit you have, in case you dont know...the fuel cut off....can be by passed, now chew on that and figure out how my XR goes over the 120mph cut off, the reason it cuts off at 140mph mark is because the fuel pump cant flow enough fuel then, my XR is my grocerie getter so it doesnt even matter to me. I have a porsche 944 thats in process of being supercharged and converted to custom fuel management, and in process does not mean im sitting there wishing about it, the supercharger is sittin there i need to have a custom pulley made and im waiting for the fuel management system thats been on backorder for freaking 2 month.
