I was driving on the way to the City over the Auckland Harbour Bridge when I noticed the flags flying at half mast. I then realised that the pontiff had passed on and that the flags were flying as a mark of respect for the man. I think I knew then without actually hearing or viewing because it was expected...

I was sleeping restlessly on my friend's couch after spending most of the night sitting staring out the window at the city whilst at the bedside of my father who was in critical care after a serious injury. My friend lived around the corner from the City Hospital and I'd taken the invitation to crash there after a long day and fitful night. I was woken by Sarah at 4.30am who turned on the TV explaining that I had to see it as she couldn't explain it - I initially was in denial (thinking it was a hoax), then stunned appreciation of events and then numbness... I ended up taking a walk down by the harbour trying to make sense of the events... I'm still trying.

I honestly can't remember - it simply doesn't register high in my memories. I still don't understand why it's so important to some people...

I was working in my first full time gig after graduating from University... I ended up going up to one of the training rooms to watch the news... the reception was crap on the TV and I ended up jury rigging a makeshift aerial out of some wire, paper clips and a clothes hanger. I remember thinking that the Western World would retaliate and that it could drag into a long and dirty war...

I was in my 2nd year of college(kinda getting choked up thinking recalling my life then as well as 9/11) sitting in my Bio2 lab, when the prof came in and said one of the other teachers told him the Pentagon had been bombed. I remember he let us out sort of early because everyone was really wondering what the hell had gone on. Went over to my now roomates apartment and when I walked in I saw them replaying the second plane hitting the trade center. I almost collapsed in disbelief, I couldn't believe my eyes.

To London at the age of 12. It was an amazing 10 days, that I will never forget. My uncle was living there for a short time working. He invited us to come and see him. My dad(God-bless him) sent my mom and I while he stayed back working on his still new business. Stayed in a loft that was very nice, on the top floor, down the street from the train station(the lube?, i can't remember that one). Seen and done everything talked about. My mom and I hope to take my dad there some day.

I heard it on the 11 pm news as I was surfing the internet

I was working when someone came in and turned the radio station to news reports of what was occuring. We all stood around for the rest of the morning just listening. There was a fear that something worse was imminent like a nuclear bomb being detonated or similar, but that didn't occur thankfully. I really didn't like how the media kept repeating things and "guessing" about what was going on. It really didn't do much good and it scared some people. Didn't get much more work done that day, and I remember driving home in a daze listening to the radio on the way home.

It was Sunday, and I just brought in the morning newspaper. My wife and newborn daughter had just come home from the hospital the night before and we looked at the front page story in shock.
