Cannt get my 89 sunbird to start!
I have checked the spark, Good spark. Checked compresion Good. Checked fuel, Good. Im getting good fuel pressure after the fuel filter. But the injector is not spraying anything. What could it be? I have checked all the fuses. Also I can use starting fluid and it will run with that and stay running. But i take the spray away and it stalls. I made a half ass test lite at my buddys house to check the power at the injector and didnt get any power. But i do need to use a real light. Any ideas of IF there is power to the injector and IF there is NO power to it? And what it could be.
Thanks all, This looks like the only forum that answers questions! |

Re: Cannt get my 89 sunbird to start!
ummm, you have a computer, it might have died. or the injector has failed, you should be able to test if the computer is working, but I can't remember how at this moment (involves a trouble light in one of the socket holes) if it is, then you can also test the injector (again it's been a while since I read up on this but I believe it involves jumping the connection with a multimeter) by using an Ohm meter. the computer won't allow spark if it's dead, so a part of it may be faulty. I would get the haynes manual and run the tests they have in there. then if it still doesn't work, I'd start replacing things related to the problem, starting with the cheaper alternatives first.

Re: Cannt get my 89 sunbird to start!
Thanks bud,ok. This is how you check it. For everyone else that has this prob. Unplug the 2 wires to the injector. Test to see what 1 has power. Now hook it back up, Use a TEST LIGHT for this. Hook the clip to ground and pierce the HOT wire and see if the injector fires. If it does its the ECM. If it doesnt then its the injector.
Since everything goes thru the ECM it has to be 1 of the 2. |

did you test it then? what's it reading? Not real sure how easy it is to remove aninjector, I could never figure out the one on my old 91 Cav (great car 250,000 miles and the new owner loves it), it had the TBI on it.

I did test it. And it would open when i grouned the BLUE wire. So that is ok. The injector is very simple to take out. Take the torx srew that holds it down then pop it up and its out. |
