Auditable tone / Fuel Injectors???
I have a 1995 Crown Victoria with 144K miles. Last night while returning home on the interstate I head an auditable tone / alarm. I initially thought that my cell phone was going off, but it was definitely the car. This tone went off a total of four times over a 45-minute period, and was heard for around 5 seconds. I have the digital dash cluster, and the only abnormal thing that I noticed on the cluster is that the Fuel pump indicator was lit, even with over ˝ a tank of gas. This light normally comes on with around 3 gallons of fuel remaining. I could not find anything in the owner’s manual referring to this condition, and was speculating that it may be trying to indicate a fuel injection problem????? There was no seat belt or door ajar indicator, and the car appeared to be operating normally.
I am new to this forum & any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Ed |

Hey, I'll take a shot at this.... my '93 has the digital dash and the "fuel pump indicator" light isn't. It's a fuel LEVEL indicator which is consistent with your next comment on it coming on with about 3 gallons of fuel remaining. I am speculating (don't have the wiring diagram in front of me) but suspect the sensor is part of the float assembly in the fuel tank to discern fuel level. Probably nothing more than a ground connection to illuminate the lamp when the appropriate level is reached (3 gal?). Likely, there is a ground fault in the circuit; could be on the float assembly or along the route (frayed wiring harness?) to the warning lamp and audible alarm circuit. In my opinion, this has NOTHING to do with injectors. If you "trust" your fuel gauge and don't care to spend any cash, live with the tones. If not, the float assembly, combined with some electrical intuition is where I would start....
Hope this helps. |
