Problem with 4 low 98 cherokee

Yesterday I went digging up in some mountains here in Utah. I have a 98 cherokee sport, with 4.0L i6. With the 4h and 4l. When we got up to the mountain, I put it in 4 high with no problem. When I got to some heavy mud and ruts, i stopped to put it into 4 low. I put it in park, but somehow it wouldn't engage all the way. I would pull the 4wd shifter to 4 low, and nothing would happen. It wouldn't click in place, and no light would come on in the dash. Not sure if i'm not pulling it back far enough, or what. any help would help. thanks

when going to 4l you can shift while you're moving about 2-3 mph. shift transmission to neutral pull transfer lever over to right and rearward firmly in to 4l hope this helps dale

Nevery mind. I figured it out. Maybe next time I should be looking at my own manual before I ask stupid questions.
