Not kicking into gear... tran probs
Well when I was driving today my car started kicking in and out of what seemed like neutral, I barely made it up a hill I was on and drifted into a parking lot. Now I can't kick it into reverse or drive (I have auto tranny) my fluid is full, what's the deal, is my tranny F**ked?

Sounds like it. Or the filter is hogged up.

No. Converting to manual would involve finding and installing the clutch pivot assembly and pedal, different brake pedal, a hole in the floor, new ECM (they are different for a manual), and probably more stuff I haven't thought of.

So it would be outrageously expensive?

Re: Not kicking into gear... tran probs
Since I found this forum while searching for info on the same problem originally posted here that my girlfriend's '95 Lumina was having I thought I might leave a note on what I found in our case. (Keep in mind that I know nothing about transmissions.)
I took off the pan to replace the filter as was suggested here. I found that one of the three hard lines (bent tubing) had become loose and was no longer secured into its port. I went ahead and replaced the filter and tapped the line back into its port with a rubber mallet. All is fine now. Thanks you to everyone who write all the knowledgable posts! ;Patrick |
